Chris D'Alfonso

Are you ready for a story? Well here is how it all began…
“I wanted to learn to play an instrument after a discussion with my hairdresser, Frank Micallef. God rest his soul, he was a great man. I was still 8 years old at
the time and as I sat still, he asked me what I had been doing all afternoon. I quickly replied “playing!” still pondering on what else an 8 year old should be doing on a Saturday afternoon. He told me that his son was attending a piano lesson at that very moment, which didn’t sound like too much fun. I then learned the words that would quickly change my attitude. Frank explained to me that toys are a joy that would fade with time, while an instrument is something I could play forever.”
Well, it took a couple of years for that philosophy to kick in. And as usual interests always evolve at the weirdest of times.
“I should have spent more hours studying, but with my shiny new guitar leaning against the wall, crying out for me to play it for a while… you understand don’t you? How could I resist?”
Amidst all the turmoil and changes life brings around, Chris found himself in an awkward place, just seeking more out of life. Who, one time or another, has never questioned life?
“I like to describe myself as the adventurous type, I would try anything once. If it then worked, or I liked it, I would stick to it. If not, then nobody could tell me I didn’t try. God was one of the things on this list, but little did I know what changes a decision like that would make.”
In September 1998 Chris decided to take his faith to a more personal level.
“There is just no turning back. I’ve taken many decisions that I still question even to this day, but this one is different. I have never regretted giving God a chance in my life. I can’t say my problems have gone away, and as for me, I’m far from perfect. What I’ve learned is that I don’t have to face life’s challenges alone anymore.”
Today Chris leads worship for Marana Thá community and Youths 4 Jesus.
Weekly they meet for prayerful worship, as well as insightful teachings and fellowship.
“I owe it all to the dedicated people in the community. Their thirst and enthusiasm has left a lasting impression on my life. There is nothing more moving than to see people come together for one reason, and to just stand in His presence and praise Him.”
