This is the story of
a youth minister, a studio engineer, a college student, and a
pharmacist, who came together to become one of the most popular
Catholic bands in the country.
Leaving his home in
the suburbs of Chicago, Bob Rice went to Orlando where he was
working nights doing improv comedy and band gigs. The band was
becoming very successful. It won a "Best of the Florida Bands"
contest, and was getting airplay on some major radio stations.
Their CD release broke records for local bands in the area. But
Bob felt a call in his heart to do youth ministry in an Ohio town
called Steubenville. So he quit the comedy club, broke up the
band, threw everything in his car, and headed North to Ohio.
That's where he met Mike.
Mike Ofca was born
in upstate New York, and studied studio recording at the Art
Institute of Pittsburgh. One of the teachers there recognized his
talent, and hired him at his studio in Steubenville, Ohio. At the
time, Mike was recording Jim Cowan, a nationally known worship
leader. When Bob wanted to record a few songs, it was Jim who sent
him Mike's way. Bob thought that Mike was just the studio
engineer, but when he offered to play some lead guitar on some of
the songs, Bob was blown away by what he heard.
And you'll just have
to check in next week to hear about the rest of the band...
