Chris Muglia pulled no punches with his newest
CD called
Innocence.
This is Muglia’s fourth and he went all out in
gathering an all-star squad of fabulous musicians, guys
who play with Amy Grant, D.C. Talk and other
contemporary Christian giants. The album takes advantage
of the latest recording technologies to produce a
colorful, professional, hard-hitting, pop-rock sound, a
fitting context for Muglia’s rich vocals and devout
lyrics.
Innocence
reflects Muglia’s personal journey as a husband
and father and on the most precious truths of the
Catholic faith — the Eucharist, Mary, the Communion of
Saints — he wrote these 11 original songs to reach both
the faithful and those who have wandered from the fold,
knowing that God is there for us always, no matter where
we are He wants us back. This is the theme of the song
“Faithful.” This tune underscores Muglia’s vocal talent
with a tender message about friendship between God and man,
a theme echoed in the song “I Am Blest,” as well. It’s a
slightly country tune (it was recorded in Nashville)
giving praise to God for being able to
sing. Being aware of God is the idea behind “We
Need To Know Our Maker,” a song with a great beat. Muglia has a sound that is much like that of Tom Booth or Matt Maher. Speaking of Maher, he helped out in many
ways with this CD, co-writing the song "Masterpiece" with Muglia and helping
with arrangements for “Your Will
Be Done.” My surprise came when listening to the first
track, called “With All Your Strength.” It's an awesome
song with lots of power behind it asking us to praise
His Holy Name. (The tune sounds a bit like an old song
by the group The Professionals, called “Kick Down The
Door.”) Chris Muglia knows that some of the teachings
of the Church are not easily understood or believed.
The title track "Innocence" speaks of
the peace that comes to those who accept and believe
with the innocent faith of a child. Let us all let the
child in us lead us.
16
year-old Catholic singer Angelina has released two ‘and
a half’ CDs this year. The ‘half’ is that she added the
Mysteries of Light to her top selling CD
Angelina Prays the Rosary.
The first release this year is called
Songs of the Faithful.
This
10-song collection is a companion to her upcoming DVD
that takes Angelina to some of Christendom’s most famous
sights , but the CD is a stand alone product. To
understand ourselves and to find meaning in our own
actions we must order them towards one goal, says Angelina. We
must model ourselves after Christ. “To be perfect as
your heavenly Father is perfect.” (Mt. 6:33) The
faithful have done this and following their lead will
bring us closer to Christ. Some of the faithful include
Padre Pio (in the song "Touched By Your Love"), St.
Patrick ("The Deer’s Cry"), St. Faustina ("Fountains of
Mercy"), and St. Joseph ("Husband of Mary"). There is also
a beautiful tribute song to Mother Teresa of Calcutta.
One of my favorite cuts features Angelina using
those awesome pipes of hers to bring life into the
Prayer of St. Francis. The one song that will be talked
about from this CD is her cover of last year’s
cross-over hit from Mercy Me called “I Can Only
Imagine.” If you liked the original, you will love
Angelina version. The last track on Songs
of the Faithful
puts thing in
perspective . “We Are Many Parts” lets us know we are
many parts but one body.
Angelina’s second CD this year is called
The Child Within.
With this newest release, Angelina takes a new approach to
her a lready legendary vocals. She has added a new style
that equals that of Sara Brightman, Harry Connik Jr.,
Josh Groban, or even Frank Sinatra. Each one of these
recordings is different in many ways, but a common
thread holds them together. The thread is made of
innocence, creative imagination, love of life and a deep
sense of childlike spirituality. Once again, Angelina
collectively puts together songs that have in one way or
another touched her soul and warmed her heart. From
everyone's childhood comes songs like "Yes, Jesus Love
Me," "Baby Mine" from Dumbo, and "Pure Imagination" from
Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. Other songs that
show a childlike innocence and love of God include
"Breathe," "Lord You Have My Heart," "As I Kneel," "My
Deliverer," "Christopher Robin Saying His Prayers," and
many more. This CD also adds something new as Angelina
has begun writing poems and adds a few to the songs as
an introduction. This CD is a reminder that we must
come to Jesus like a child full of innocence
and faith. The songs on
The Child Within
will bring you or someone you know joy and wonderful
memories of happier times.
Popular
Irish tenor Patrick Mulhern is back with a CD
entitled
Spirit
of Ireland – Traditional Irish Favorites.
On this CD Mulhern delivers stirring renditions of old
Irish favorites as he recounts the struggle and faith of
the Irish
people.
You can feel the passion and fortitude
inherited from St. Patrick. This wonderful tribute to
the Irish spirit includes such classics as "Four Green
Fields", "Rare Olde Times," "Lord of All Hopefulness," "Faith
of Our Fathers," "The King of Love My Shepherd Is," "I'll
Take You Home Again Kathleen," "Glorious St. Patrick"
and many more. These traditional songs will not be
forgotten and are brought new richness through Mulhern’s inspiring Irish
tenor voice. Irish singing and dancing is a Mulhern
family activity which they enjoy doing together. He and
wife Karen have four daughters. While all have sung with
him at some point, daughter Bridget is a soloist on this
latest album. Two daughters are also prize-winning Irish
dancers. It doesn’t matter if you haven’t a drop of
Irish blood in you, you will enjoy “Spirit of Ireland.”
